Ancestrial McCaleb Farms




1850 Andrew McCaleb Had 45 acres cultivated,, 75 acres in timber, all
valued.$300 had

$30 farmiing instruments, 2 horses, 1 mule, 5 milk cows, 6 oxen, 7 other cows,
14 sheep,

28 hogs, total value livestock $359, made 600 bu Indian corn, 2 bales cotton.,
15 lbs wool., 50 bushels of sweet potatoes and 30 lbs butter.

1850 Elizabeth McCaleb (.Andrew's mother) 60 acres cultivated, 150 in woodland,
all

valued $600., had $100 farming implements., 4 horses, 10 milk COWS 15 other
cattle, 12

sheep, 40 pigs, total value livestock $438, made 12 bushels of wheat, 500 bu
Indian coro,

100 bu oats, no cotton, wool, potatoes., or butter. Her husband., old man Hugh ,

must not have been dead too long.

1860 Alfred Cowan McCaleb 40 acres cultivated, 80 acres timber all worth $500,
$5 farming equipment., 2 horses., 2 milk cows, 2 oxen, 7 other cows,, 20 swine
all worth $400 grew ,200 bu Indian corn., 4 bales cotton., 100 bu peas., 10 bu
Irish potatoes, 50 lbs butter., 1 1/2 tons hay., value of home made goods
$100,,slaughtered animals worth $150

1860 Andrew McCaleb 115 acres cultivated, 275 in timber all valued $2000, had
$100

farming implemnets, 5 horses , 7 milk cows, 2 oxen., 12 other cows., 16 sheep,
25 swine, 7 milk cows,

all valued.$1000, made 106 bu wheat., 600 bu Indian corn., 17 bales cotton., 25
lbs wool,200 bu peas and.beans, 25 bu Irish potatoes., 200 bu sweet potatoes,
100 lbs butter, 4 tons hay., 40 lbs honey., had $50 homemade household goods
and slaughtered animals worth $300.

1860 Alfred,C. McCaleb 90 acres cultivated,, 50 acres in forest all worth $100,
had $15 worth farming implements, sold $300 livestock and $500 farm produce;
had 3 horses., 2 mules, 2 milk cows., 2 other cows., 3 calves dropped,.1 died.,
made 25 lb butter, had l sheep., 3 lambs., 8 swine., 20 chickens that produced
50 doz eggs. Fleeced 18 sheep and got 30 lbs wool, had 45 acres in Indian corn
producing 500 bu, 12 acres oats producing 100 bu,, 12 acres wheat producing 75
bu,, 20 acres cotton making 5 bales, 1 acre sorghum made 30 gal. molasses, 1/2
acre sweet potatoes made 50 bu, 2 acres (20) trees., had 20 peach trees,
and.sold 12 cords of wood at $1 a cord,. Somebody must have been working around
there. His wife Mary Ann McDonald.died that year.

In 1870 Alfred's bro William F. McCaleb had 50 acres cultivated,, 60 acres
timberland

all worth 1000., $10 farming implements,, paid,out 100$ wages,, had 1 horse,, 2
milk cows, 2 oxen, 5 other cows, 5 sheep., 7 swine., Valued $200, made 120 bu
winter wheat., 200 bu

indian corn, 4 bales cotton., 5 lb wool, 1 ton hay., had $25 homespun
furniture., slaughtered,$75 cattle., $200 total farm production.

1870 John MCaleb (bro of others above) preacher had.150 acres cultivated,, 800
timber, all worth $1500, had $40 farming implements., paid out $200 in wages
(his children all girls), had 2 horses, 2 mules., 3 milk cows, 2 oxen, 10 other
cattle, 15(fifteen) sheep., 26 swine all valued $500, made 400 bu Indian corn.
Total value produced $50.

1870 another bro James McCaleb 60 acres cultivated, 300 acres timber, all valued
$600, $30 farming implements, 1 horse., 3 mule, 4 milk cows, 8 other cows, 25
sheep, 20 swine all valued $400, made 20 bu winter wheat, 300 bu corn., 1/2
bale cotton., 6 lb woool, 33 bu sweet potatoes, 100 lbs butter, 5 gal
molasses., $40 home mfg household,goods, $200 total. farm production.

1850 our ancester John Hollingsworth had 130 acres cultivated., 404 acres
woodland valued.1900$, had $300 farming implements,, 9 horses., 1 ass or rnule,
5 milk cows, 4 oxen., 25 other cows., 10 sheep., 50 swine, total value livestock
$780., made 21 bu wheat., 1000 bu Indian corn., 15 bu oats., 3 bales cotton., 30
lbs wool,, 14 bu peas & beans, 102 bu sweet potatoes., 150 lb butter., 30 lbs
cheese. (bigger operator than McCalebs)

1860 John Hollingsworth 100 acres cultivated., 1200 acres timber all valued
$300., $525 farming implements. 6 horses. 2 nmles, 10 milk cows., 2 oxen., 14
other cows., 13 sheep.,

60 swine worth $940,, 35 bu wheat., 700 bu corn 5 bales cotton, 21 lbs wool. bu
Irish potatoes,

100 bu sweet, 250 lb Butter, 5 tons hay, $75 Household goods and $415 of cows
slaughtewred. Didn’t get the rest.
